Ace Banzuelo’s viral smash “Muli” is now the top OPM song on Spotify Philippines this week!
The dreamy track continues to drive impressive numbers as it reaches the top 3 of both Spotify Top 200 Philippines chart and Spotify Viral 50 Philippines chart, respectively.
Ace Banzuelo’s “Muli” is officially the No. 1 most streamed OPM song in Spotify Philippines this week.
Initially released in 2020, the eloquently produced track has found renewed popularity online due to the song’s organic amount of support on short-form video app, TikTok, as well as other social media platforms.
“I absolutely have no idea about its virality,” says the multi-talented producer and singer-songwriter. “The authentic support to the song was really surprising, because it started with regular people. There were no big promotional activities for this song, just the fans, and I truly love them for that.”
The song has reached the top 3 of Spotify Top 200 Philippines and the top 2 of Spotify Viral 50 Philippines chart. It continues to rack up impressive numbers even outside the country, peaking at No. 6 on Spotify Viral 50 Global and at No. 3 on Spotify UAE Viral 50, respectively.
In addition to its chart placements, the song is included in two major playlists: No. 2 on both Hot Hits Philippines and Tatak Pinoy, a flagship OPM playlist. To date, “Muli” has racked up more than 5 million streams on Spotify alone, with an increase of more than 3.2 million streams after gaining traction on TikTok.
Written, produced, mixed, and mastered by Ace Banzuelo himself in a small bedroom in Laguna, “Muli” sets itself apart from the formulaic ‘hugot’ ballads with its subtle electronic production and more eclectic influences. The chart-topping electro ballad incorporates heart-wrenching lyrics that go hard about the realities of both life and romance.
“Muli speaks of eternal faithful love,” reveals the young artist. “The song talks about one’s incapability of moving on despite surpassing multiple challenges in life. “
According to Ace, “Muli” was inspired from a dark place and time in his life since he was a little boy. He wrote the chorus first, with the ideas rushing in and flowing naturally to create an entire whole. “I knew which styles I wanted, and which sounds I wanted to grab from the start,” he adds. “I wanted to arrive at a dreamy, trap-infused sound that had a crying guitar.”
Ace Banzuelo is currently gearing up for the release of his first full-length debut album sometime this year. Expect more releases, videos, and other related content from the new hitmaker.

Let’s Support Filipino Businesses

I bought a pair of silver earrings today. I don’t necessarily need them but they are handmade and made of recycled silver. And they were made in the Philippines. I have several piercings, so I will surely rock them soon. I cannot wait to share that they are locally-made when my friends ask me where I got them.
I have been buying Filipino products for a few years now. It started with my toiletries, as many brands sold here were mostly imported and expensive. I researched some up and coming local brands that I can support. After some trial and error, I was able to find my holy grail products. They’re all locally-made and fairly priced. This was the start of my passion for Filipino products.
In the last five years, I have noticed the emergence of local brands that produced quality products. The local fashion industry has been very productive. Most of my clothes are now local. I’m proud to say that they are of good quality and very stylish.
Later on, I added bags, shoes, jewelry, and accessories from local designers and shops. I attended trade shows to broaden my knowledge of local brands and to expose myself to the latest trends. I also featured my local finds on my blog, which enabled me to help them grow in my own little way.
I felt good whenever I bought a Filipino product, because I know that I am saving jobs for my fellow Filipinos. I also had fun researching local brands. It was exciting to watch these businesses grow and thrive. Many of them survived the pandemic, which means that I’m not alone in the quest to buy Filipino.
Local products are a conversation starter for me. I often get asked where I got a certain accessory or shirt, and I would proudly share the link of the seller. It feels great to share my passion to others, especially to those who are not aware that these brands exist in the first place. And since I used to work in a bank, I know firsthand that buying local is synonymous to boosting our economy.
We may not be sure of what the future will bring, but we can be sure that buying local can help our country grow and thrive.
Now that I am a published book author, I’m aware of how laborious it is to produce a single book. I have shifted my interests to my fellow Filipino authors. It is a joy to discover interesting books written by Filipinos, for Filipinos. I hope that you can also support Filipino authors like me, because we are also brands in need of your patronage and interest.
Lastly, being a foodie means that buying Filipino is an easy endeavor for me. I love supporting Filipino restaurants and snack brands. It makes me happy to see that a lot of them are world class and are able to compete with foreign cuisines and brands. I will continue eating Filipino food and of course, that includes brewing Filipino coffee beans at home.
It’s true that we live in very uncertain times. We can only control some parts of our lives, and that includes the brands that we support, and the products that we buy. I hope that you can buy Filipino more often, until it becomes second nature to you.
Supporting our fellow Filipinos will not only help them, but it’s also good for the soul. So, start today! Buy a Filipino product now and you will realize that there are still many reasons to have Filipino pride.

EJ De Perio asserts the inevitability of endings on heartfelt debut single “Panandalian”
The heart-warming ballad serves as his first official single as a signed artist under Sony Music Philippines
Filipino singer-songwriter EJ De Perio defies the concept of perpetuity on “Panandalian,” his first official singleunder Sony Music Philippines.
Brimming with laid-back, acoustic guitars and minimal instrumentation, the heartfelt ballad asserts his sentiment that despite the uncertainty of the future, there will always be that one person who is willing to stick out with you through thick and thin.
“I wrote Panandalian out of the realization that nothing’s gonna last forever, and everything must come to an end,” says the talented newcomer. “The song is about preparing yourself for the inevitable change, and making sure to protect that one person who is willing to keep things the same way—even if everything around you is constantly evolving.”
The stripped-down track is produced by fellow singer-songwriter Migz Haleco, who honed EJ De Perio’s folk-pop sound with mellow sensibilities.
“I’m really glad that Migz helped me find the sound that fits my vision,” De Perio shares. “With Migz, it’s always a collaborative process. I provide input, and he executes it well.”
The release of “Panandalian” comes with a poignant music video helmed by young filmmaker Ivan Pasia. The MV, which stars young actor Francis Magundayao, conveys the message of the song with riveting earnestness, keenly aware of its commitment to power through despite life taking us on a bumpy ride.
A few months ago, EJ De Perio teased the streaming public with “BUNTONG HININGA” under WATERWALK Records. The guitar-pop ballad documents a conversation between him and God in one of his dreams. He also recently signed with Sony Music Philippines, and is planning to release thematically binding songs about “unspoken emotions.”
“I’ve been an independent singer-songwriter for 5 years and I didn’t see this coming,” De Perio shares in a statement. “I’m just glad that the Sony Music Philippines really believed in what I do and what I write. In return, I’m determined to use my platform to inspire more people through music. This is a gift that I hope to continue doingfor more years to come.”

Sponge Cola reveals the inconvenient truth about regret on new single “Laman Ng Panaginip”
The new single is inspired by the power ballads of the ‘80s and ‘90s
Filipino alternative rock outfit Sponge Cola addresses the truth about regret and longing on their heart-wrenching single “Laman Ng Panaginip”—released via Sony Music Philippines.
Redefining love songs with reckless abandon, the Filipino quartet expresses the complexity of impossible choices in a world that is grounded in the familiar and often neglected reality of prioritizing practicality first before anything else, including love.
“This idea is mentioned concretely in the song almost as blunt exposition,” lead vocalist and guitarist Yael Yuzon stresses. “I really wanted the listener to feel that slab of reality to the face as opposed to something vague and symbolic. No figures of speech here; just feel it and let it all out. It’s the type of material that deserves to be sung out loud in the videoke over drinks with our friends and family for some kind of release.”
According to Yuzon, the song is about a love that never was. “The courage and reckless abandon that goes with singing a power ballad oftentimes come from a place of regret.”
In terms of sonic approach and arrangement, “Laman Ng Panaginip” is inspired by the power ballad movement of the ‘80s and early ‘90s. With guidance from producer Joey Santos of Love One Another Studios, the track delivers another high point in the band’s career with indelible catchiness and impressive musical chops to back it up.
“It's a direct reference to a specific genre and time period that had a very influential impact in our formative years,” guitarist Armo Armovit shares in a statement. “It was recorded in Love One Another with producer Joey Santos making sure each layer of production had meaning and told the story.”
The song’s release is accompanied by an arresting visual helmed by filmmaker Ken Tan. Referencing Armovit, the MV director “did an excellent job in conveying the dream vs reality theme with the most minimal of elements.” The Sponge Cola’s resident guitarist adds, “The dancer, Ysabel Lava, delivered a captivating and emotionally charged performance with every move she choreographed herself.”
“Laman Ng Panaginip” is the fifth single released off their upcoming new album, CLASSIC—to be released sometime this year. The new record will serve as the band’s eighth full-length album, following a string of multiplatinum and critically acclaimed hits that span for more than two decades.

Young Cocoa infuses bossa nova sample with modern hip-hop flair on new single ‘Nova’
The catchy, laid-back track will be part of his debut EP to be released sometime in 2022
After landing on several high-profile playlists curated by some of the biggest names in K-Pop, Filipino singer-songwriter/producer Young Cocoa returns with “Nova,” his new single under pan-regional label, OFFMUTE.
Incorporating a bossa nova sample as foundation for the rest of the beat, the prolific hip-hop artist raps about young love with awe-inspiring giddiness, and delivers one of the breeziest crossover tunes to come out in a while.
The smooth bop was produced by Cavill, who captured the energy of the lyrics with undeniable ease. It will be part of his upcoming debut EP to be released in the latter part of 2022.
“We wanted to create a song that was an easy listen, had a lot of bounce, and felt ‘bubbly’ in the same way the lyrics were written,” reveals the rising Asian rapper. “Nova’s creation really just started off of the exploration of a different sound, and progressed into a song that I wrote about having an innocent crush, or puppy love. The title is directly inspired by my favorite snack, Nova and the use of Bossa Nova elements in the production.”
The song comes with a performative visual that aims to bring to life the single art inspired by Wes Anderson—in some capacity. Young Cocoa adds, “The video is set in sunrise, midday, and sunset, where I basically perform as if I’m talking about/to the person I like.”
The Manila chart-topper also tapped filmmaker friend Miko Del Rosario to direct the “Nova” MV with Leo Malli as DOP.

About Young Cocoa
As one of the most promising hip-hop artists in the Southeast Asian region, OFFMUTE signee Young Cocoa quickly rose to fame after BTS’ resident rapper RM included his track “Manila” in one of the global superstar’s online playlists. The trailblazing bop, which finds the Filipino artist rapping over lo-fi beats and jazzy soundscapes, eventually went viral, and received endorsements and playlist inclusions from Korean artists such as RM of BTS, Jay of ENHYPEN, Yeri of Red Velvet, Eric of The Boyz, Omega X, Dawon of SF19 and Lia Kim from 1Million Dance Studio.
Currently based in Manila, the 24-year-old rapper and songwriter has established himself as genre-averse artist whose music draws a lot from his personal narratives and observations on life. With groove-oriented production and smooth urban sound, Young Cocoa’s work explores a diverse range of genres and sonic template that often reflects a state of dreaminess and escape, but whose verses embrace the confessional and authentic side of storytelling.
The eclectic Filipino artist considers Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Anderson Paak., Saba and Tyler TheCreator as some of his music influences. He works with some of the most underrated and innovative hip-hop and electronic producers in Asia, from Korean-based beatmaker Lazy Wanderlust to Indonesia’s very own Ghidd. Blending his own artistry with sonic collages set up by his collaborators, Young Cocoa provides a unique music stamp with layers of childlike nostalgia, countryside daydream, and city futurism, and touches on themes derived from his experiences as a third culture kid.
As the first hip-hop artist under pan-regional music label, OFFMUTE, Young Cocoa is determined to push the Southeast Asian sound to the next level, while retaining his personhood in the creative process. He is currently working on new songs off his debut EP to be released soon.
His first official single is “Zesto,” a bouncy electro-pop tune that reimagines the very definition of a summer anthem.
ABOUT OFFMUTE
OFFMUTE is a new pan-regional label by Sony Music Entertainment focused on championing new and emerging Southeast Asian artists from across all genres, giving them a dedicated platform to pursue their creative vision and reach audiences across the region.
The new label will support Southeast Asian artists in amplifying their music and building a strong pan-regional audience base with the enhanced promotional, marketing, and artistic development of Sony Music’s global expertise and resources.
OFFMUTE is the first-of-its-kind in Southeast Asia, embracing the eclectic appeal and rich diversity that Southeast Asia has to offer, and empowering artists with the resources and expertise to find cross-border success.
OFFMUTE was launched in March 2021 with new artists signed from Indonesia (Mezzaluna), the Philippines (Clara Benin), and Malaysia (liesl-mae).
