Filipino rapper/producer Young Cocoa pays tribute to Jakarta on new single “J-TOWN (PM)”
The DNB-infused bop is produced by his frequent collaborator Trizzy
Filipino rapper-producer Young Cocoa revisits his experiences of growing up in Jakarta on "J-TOWN (PM)"—his new single via pan-regional label, OFFMUTE.
According to the prolific young artist, "J-TOWN (PM)" maps a pivotal moment in his life where he embraced the joys and pains of living in a multicultural city, pursued his goals and dreams, and met people with diverse backgrounds.
"The song is about how I feel about Jakarta," Young Cocoa reflects. "It’s not so much a nostalgic visit as it is one where I express how much impact the city has had on me."
While the majority of the lyrics are delivered in English, some of the lines in Young Cocoa’s latest track are in Bahasa Indonesia. The Manila chart-topper shares, "The way I did it was inspired by other Southeast Asian artists who would mix English and their native languages into their lyrics. I chose to incorporate Bahasa because I felt it was necessary to tell my story as authentically as possible, as this is a more serious take on how I normally structure the lyrics and storytelling of my music."
"J-TOWN (PM)" is produced by Young Cocoa’s frequent collaborator Trizzy, whose work pushes the rookie act to experiment and explore his sound even further. Combining drum n’ bass elements with UK Garage and lo-fi textures, the song showcases a grittier, edgier, and more serious side of Young Cocoa, while allowing listeners to get to know him on a deeper lyrical level.
"JTOWN is the most different song I’ve ever made," says Young Cocoa. "I consider it a benchmark in my discography in terms of my sound selection, tempo, mood, and overall evolution of taste."
"J-TOWN" will be on Young Cocoa’s debut mixtape, Sari Sari, to be released in the coming months. The soon-to-be-released EP contains a collaboration with an Asian artist he met last year at a music festival, as well as some bops.
Check out Young Cocoa’s “J-TOWN (PM)” on all digital music platforms via OFFMUTE.

About Young Cocoa
As one of the most promising hip-hop artists in the Southeast Asian region, OFFMUTE signee Young Cocoa quickly rose to fame after BTS’ resident rapper RM included his track “Manila” in one of the global superstar’s online playlists. The trailblazing bop, which finds the Filipino artist rapping over lo-fi beats and jazzy soundscapes, eventually went viral, and received endorsements and playlist inclusions from Korean artists such as RM of BTS, Jay of ENHYPEN, Yeri of Red Velvet, Eric of The Boyz, Omega X, Dawon of SF19 and Lia Kim from 1Million Dance Studio.
Currently based in Manila, the 25-year-old rapper and songwriter has established himself as genre-averse artist whose music draws a lot from his personal narratives and observations on life. With groove-oriented production and smooth urban sound, Young Cocoa’s work explores a diverse range of genres and sonic template that often reflects a state of dreaminess and escape, but whose verses embrace the confessional and authentic side of storytelling.
The eclectic Filipino artist considers Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Anderson Paak., Saba and Tyler TheCreator as some of his music influences. He works with some of the most underrated and innovative hip-hop and electronic producers in Asia, from Korean-based beatmaker Lazy Wanderlust to Indonesia’s very own Ghidd. Blending his own artistry with sonic collages set up by his collaborators, Young Cocoa provides a unique music stamp with layers of childlike nostalgia, countryside daydream, and city futurism, and touches on themes derived from his experiences as a third culture kid.
As the first hip-hop artist under pan-regional music label, OFFMUTE, Young Cocoa is determined to push the Southeast Asian sound to the next level, while retaining his personhood in the creative process. He is currently working on new songs off his debut EP to be released soon.

ADB and Cambodia Post Bank Sign $10 Million Loan to Improve Access to Finance for MSMEs in Cambodia
PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA (8 February 2023) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Cambodia Post Bank (CP Bank) signed a loan of up to $10 million to support the recovery of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Cambodia from the COVID-19 pandemic by expanding their access to finance. At least 50% of the proceeds are marked to finance MSMEs led by women.
“Improving MSMEs’ access to working capital and longer term financing has considerable benefits, not only for their growth but also for job creation and broader economic recovery,” said ADB Vice-President for Private Sector Operations and Public–Private Partnerships Ashok Lavasa. “This financing will support the profitability of these businesses by improving their competitiveness and giving them access to domestic and international production networks.”
MSMEs account for 99.8% of all enterprises in Cambodia and employ upwards of 72% of the labor force. Cambodian MSMEs have limited access to finance, with less than 20% of unregistered enterprises acquiring a loan or a line of credit from a financial institution. Most of them are owned by women. The challenges facing female entrepreneurs are particularly acute, with fewer than 5% having access to formal credit.
“CP Bank has prioritized the development of financing for MSMEs to help them grow and evolve so they can create more jobs and expand their contribution to the broader economy. The assistance from ADB will help us to provide additional financial products and services to these underserved businesses while supporting their working capital and investment needs,” said CP Bank CEO Toch Chaochek.
ADB will help CP Bank to incorporate gender equality and women’s empowerment into its business activities through the development of a gender action plan and the appointment of a staff-level gender focal point.
Since joining ADB in 1992, Cambodia has received over $4.7 billion in sovereign and nonsovereign loans, guarantees, and technical assistance for agriculture, irrigation, finance, transport, energy, and water supply and sanitation among others. ADB’s support is closely aligned with the country’s development priorities. Recent ADB assistance has helped to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 and strengthen access for women, particularly in provinces. ADB has also supported public–private partnerships and private sector renewable energy projects in Cambodia.
Based in Phnom Penh, CP Bank provides financial services to MSMEs and retail consumers with a focus on middle-lower-income and emerging middle-income segments. It has the country’s fifth-largest branch network and serves more than 258,600 customers in urban and rural areas.
ADB is committed to achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific, while sustaining its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty. Established in 1966, it is owned by 68 members—49 from the region.

Private Listen
Out NOW via Ultra Records
Klingande kicks off 2023 with “Kids On The Run,” a nostalgic house anthem that sees the multi-platinum French DJ & producer collaborating with rising producer VARGEN. The feel-good track is brought to life by Klingande and Vargen’s high-energy sound. Drawing from ‘70s rock music as well as upbeat, catchy EDM. “Kids On The Run” is set to be an instant classic.
VARGEN, Swedish for “wolf” and is the first signing of KIDDO’s (Tiesto, Wiz Khalifa, Alan Walker, Robin Schulz to name a few) newly formed record label Tolv Records. A new soon to be iconic, female DJ staying an enigma while wearing a wolf mask is establishing her place in the heavily male dominated DJ music industry. The debut release ”What A Feeling” made its way to place 130 on German official radio charts and VARGEN is now teaming up with Klingande on 70’s rock inspired rebel dance anthem ”Kids On The Run” as a followup. She says: “It feels like blessing to be able to follow up 'What A Feeling' with this amazing song and collaboration with Klingande."
Klingande, French producer and tropical house champion, has been breathing new life into the electronic music world with his impeccable productions and uplifting sound for nearly half a decade. Propelled to instant fame in 2014 with his multi-platinum debut release, ‘Jubel,’ Klingande has since continued to release a constant stream of genre-defying singles to satiate his ever-growing fanbase, cementing his reputation as one of the most refreshing and original producers in modern dance today. A musician in the truest sense of the word, what sets Klingande apart from the rest is not only his dedication to producing unusual and mesmerizing soundscapes, but his ability to touch each corner of the globe with them. Living life on the road for years at a time, Klingande is well-versed in worldwide tours, having performed at some of the most respected venues and festivals in the game. ‘Eye of The Storm" marks Klingande’s newest single of 2021 and follows on from 2019's masterful debut double album, The Album. An extensive, 18-track release, the acclaimed LP featured some of the Frenchman’s most recognizable tracks, including ‘Pumped Up’, ‘By The River’, ‘Alive’ and the multi-platinum ‘Jubel’.

Caffeine For Your Heart: A Review of White Mocha Americano
I have a soft spot in my heart for books written during the Covid-19 pandemic. As an author who published books during this teachable moment, I greatly empathize with the enterprising authors who chose to write their narratives during this period of uncertainty. White Mocha Americano by Anthony Shieh is no exception. It is a masterpiece written and published during the time of the pandemic. Incidentally, this is the second book published by Shieh during the pandemic. I appreciate his resilience and creativity during the pandemic.
The novel is a love letter to the LGBTQᐩ community. There are various gay slang words peppered across the novel. I appreciate Shieh’s efforts in including the definition of these terms for everyone’s information. I also enjoyed listening to the author’s playlist, which is included in the novel via a Spotify code. It was like listening to Shieh’s creative musical influences while reading his book, and this gave it another layer of artistry.
I love coffee, so this book resonated with me as it is full of references to my favorite drink. In fact, the title itself needs no introduction. It is a beverage that was made popular by millennials, which incidentally is the generation which Shieh belongs to. And while there is no note in the novel indicating that it is partly autobiographical, I have a feeling that Shieh shares some personal experiences in this book, which adds a personal touch to the whole narrative and plot. I admire his courage for putting personal elements in the novel, such as the year he was born and the industry he belongs to. It takes chutzpah to write a deeply personal novel, and I admire the author for that.
Some metaphors may be uncomfortable to some readers though. As a woman, I was offended by a reference made to a woman who resembles a monkey. I feel that the novel could have done without a sexist reference. Other than that, I found the novel ethereal and lyrical. It deserves to be read, whether you belong to the rainbow or not.
San Holo “DON’T LOOK DOWN” feat. Lizzy Land AVAILABLE via Helix Records on January 27
DON’T LOOK DOWN is here to remind you that your doubts and negative thoughts are just like clouds passing by. We easily get caught up in the noise of everyday life, myself included. I hope this song can help you keep your head up, and give you the strength to keep going! This song means so much to me and was written from the heart!" -San Holo
Acclaimed Dutch producer, artist, and mental health advocate San Holo released his poignantly emotional new single “DON’T LOOK DOWN” via Helix Records on January 27. At once melancholy and uplifting, the track stays true to the artist’s quintessential sound, reaching for epic sonic heights while maintaining an intimate and heartfelt level of songcraft.
After initially starting the track with celebrated producer RL Grime, San Holo collaborated with Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter Lizzy Land, whose credits include co-writes and features on songs with Alesso, Kasbo, Paul Oakenfold, EMBRZ, Jerro, and more. Land says of the songwriting process: “I heard the main melody for “DON’T LOOK DOWN” almost instantly as the track played for the first time. Like gentle bells ringing in my ears. I found it relatable to the way I often feel when I’m overwhelmed or looking for a boost. I hope it inspires people to believe in better days, a higher mindset, and the idea that they can get through anything.”
Always keeping busy with next-level projects, San Holo has recently sold out an NFT collection for his last single “All The Highs”, played a pop-up show in an elevator in partnership with taste-making curators Brownies & Lemonade, collaborated with the world-famous Dutch art museum Mauritsuis on a sonic interpretation of a work of art, created special mixes for the popular mental health app Calm and had one of his songs selected for FIFA 2023’s official soundtrack.
To celebrate the release of “DON’T LOOK DOWN”, San Holo will be featured on BBC Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale Quest Mix on Tuesday, January 24. Also, in addition to streaming platforms, “DON’T LOOK DOWN” was available as a limited 24 hour NFT drop at 1 PM PT on release day as well. After connecting their Eth wallet, users will have the opportunity to purchase a NFT of the track. Always exploring the cutting edge of Web3 technology, San Holo’s NFT release for his last single “All The Highs” sold out quickly.
For San Holo, everything is personal. Every note is a story and each lyric a memory, a hyper-real exploration of purpose, emotion, and shared experience. The Dutch producer lives in his own space, crafting a world of beauty and sentiment between the build-and-drop bombast of post-EDM and the intimate musings of ambient post-rock. Having produced EDM (existential dance music) since Soundcloud’s golden era, San’s unique style and honest approach to songwriting have earned him a loyal following that supported his independent debut album and cemented the artist as a star in a league all his own – earning the praise of critics and peers across a multitude of genres. While other artists in the dance music sphere and industry at large may shy away from the rawer aspects of the human experience, San Holo has established himself both as an individual and a brand that encourages listeners to embrace one another’s vulnerabilities.

(New York, NY) January 30, 2022: Coming off the heels of the Sundance premiere of his first-ever feature film, the Justin Chon-directed Jamojaya, Indonesian rapper, singer, and producer Rich Brian releases a new single “Sundance Freestyle” via 88rising / Warner Records with an accompanying music video.
Listen to “Sundance Freestyle” HERE and watch the music video HERE.
“Sundance Freestyle” features surreal, haunting production that underscores sentimental bars about Brian’s steady rise in the music scene and his recent Sundance debut. The cleverly written and catchy song carries a near cinematic quality as Brian spits incredulously, “I just took a flight to Utah man that’s a first time…5 years ago I’d be so happy to get 5 bands for a 30-minute set.”
The music video directed by frequent collaborator Daniel Cloud Campos, sees Brian in full movie star persona on an imagined talk show set preparing to chat about his starring role in Jamojaya. An elaborate one-take shot reveals a wide array of characters–including skateboarding keytarists and disco dancers–disrupting and causing disarray to the entire production. Watch the video HERE.
This past weekend, Jamojaya premiered at the 2023 Sundance film festival. Directed by seasoned actor and filmmaker Justin Chon, the film depicts a story of a growing gap between father and son. Brian, stars as a young, up-and-coming rapper who wants to hire a manager and a music label from the United States to take over the reins from his father, played by Yayu Unru, who has guided his son’s career as a singer from start to fame. Most of the scenes in Jamojaya are in the Indonesian language. 88rising CEO and Co-Founder, Sean Miyashiro also contributed to the film as an executive producer.
“Sundance Freestyle” notably follows Brian’s recent, self-produced track “VIVID” featuring $NOT. The breakup anthem features the rappers trading verses in a hypnotic volley, dissecting relationship ups and downs. Complex raved how on the track “Brian effortlessly switches between his low-pitched, distinctive rapping voice, and more angelic singing vocals.” Brian also recently headlined 88rising’s fourth annual, flagship Head in the Clouds festival in Los Angeles last August to an audience of over 35,000 and the festival’s globally expanded stages in Jakarta and Manila in December 2022.
More to come from Rich Brian in 2023.

ABOUT RICH BRIAN:
Growing up homeschooled in Indonesia, Brian found the Internet to be his English teacher and window to the world beyond. After moving to America alone at the age of 17, Brian has been both awed and humbled by his experiences, as they simultaneously smack him down to Earth and lift him up. After making the leap to America, Brian has experienced all the glory of “making it” - from collaborating with the likes of 21 Savage, Offset, and Playboi Carti, to selling out shows and playing festivals around the world.
Brian’s debut project Amen, released in February 2018, garnered widespread critical acclaim and topped the iTunes Hip-Hop charts - a first in history for an Asian musician. Brian has since gone on to sell out shows across North America, Europe and Asia, and festivals worldwide, including Bonnaroo and Rolling Loud. In 2019 he released The Sailor Brian’s second full-length album. It received critical acclaim, with Hypebeast proclaiming, “Rich Brian flawlessly tackles his sonic growth and Asian identity.” Featuring production from Bekon & The Donuts, 1Mind, Frank Dukes and Rich Brian himself, The Sailor documents Brian’s coming-of-age in the public eye, which has taken him from an Internet-born rapper to an Indonesian icon and hero for Asian youth around the world. The album features singles “100 Degrees”, “Yellow”, and “Kids”, and has been streamed over 550M+ times globally.
After spending months in quarantine, Brian followed up The Sailor with the 1999 EP. A sonically diverse project borne out of months of social isolation, the majority of the EP is both self-written and produced. 2021 proved to be a triumphant year for Brian as he reached new heights in his career. Brian notched his first-ever U.S. Top 40 radio hit for "edamame" with bbno$. Brian also played a prominent role in Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi & The Legend of the Ten Rings soundtrack – including collaborations with 21 Savage, Rick Ross, and DJ Snake.
Last year, Rich Brian made history as one of the first Indonesian artists to play a solo headline set at Coachella and attract 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

KAIA brings back the fun in pop music on the performance video of “Turn Up”
The P-Pop quintet’s new banger welcomes 2023 with an upbeat club anthem
After earning rave reviews for their Y2K-indebted track “Dalawa,” KAIA marks another creative triumph for P-Popwith the release of another banger under Sony Music Entertainment.
The Filipino girl group’s new single “Turn Up” unabashedly displays their signature brand of sass while reviving the bold, explosive sounds of early 2010’s dance-pop.
The release of “Turn Up” comes with a music video (performance version) directed by Denny Lee and Jake Jung. The visuals find KAIA performing the track with a synchronized choreography.
“Because it’s upbeat and danceable, we thought a party concept will best for it, so people could have fun whenever they hear Turn Up,” KAIA shares in a collaborative statement. “We want our listeners to feel good as they vibe with the song.”
The catchy track was written by KAIA themselves, and helmed by acclaimed K-Pop producer Lee Oh Won, who has done impressive work for international artists such as Stray Kids, SHINee’s Taemin, TVXQ, SB19, and more.
As pointed out by the five-member act, “Turn Up” is an escapist anthem about setting one’s worries aside for the time being and taking pleasure in moments that call for funand adventure.
“We got so busy stressing out about things that we couldn’t control,” says the Blah Blah quintet. “This song somehow encourages listeners to break away from the mold, live in the moment, and let their body groove into the music. Sometimes all you need is to disconnect from the outside world and be yourself.”
“Turn Up” will also be part of KAIA’s debut EP to be released in the coming months. The song will be performed live at the Pinoy Pop Convention 2023(PPOPCON), an ultimate fan gathering and celebration of Filipino pop culture and music.

Israeli Embassy and DepEd Commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day
A moment of silence after lighting six candles for the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust.

Sara Duterte; Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss; Assistant Secretary of DFA-United Nations and International Organizations (UNIO) - ASec Kira Christianne Danganan-Azucena; President of the Jewish Association of the Philippines Mr. Salito Malca
The Embassy of Israel in the Philippines collaborated with the Department of Education for the annual commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, with this year’s theme: Home and Belonging.
Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss thanked the Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines and Secretary of the Department of Education Hon. Sara Duterte and her team who organized the event and made the 27th of January a formal day of commemorating the holocaust in all DepEd schools and facilities.
“The Holocaust is the darkest time in human history – especially for the Jewish people. It was an unprecedented event from 1942 to 1945 when Nazi Germany attempted to annihilate the Jewish people. Six million Jews – one third of the Jewish population – were murdered for the sole reason that they were Jewish,” Ambassador Fluss explained. “Today we are witnessing voices of denial of the holocaust and increasing antisemitism. This cannot be ignored; we can never let it happen again. We must remember, learn, teach, educate, and say - never again.”
The Ambassador also remembered the act of former president of the Philippines Manuel Quezon of opening the country’s doors to over 1,300 Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazi regime in 1939. “Pres. Quezon saved not only those individuals, but also their future families.”
The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is the day that the United Nations urges every member state to honor the victims of the Holocaust. It marks the anniversary of the day in 1945 when the main extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau – where more than a million Jews were exterminated – was liberated by the allies.
The ceremony was held on the 26th of January at Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Complex in Pasig City. In attendance were officials and staff from the Embassy of Israel, Department of Education, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, and members of the Jewish community in the Philippines.

ADB, DSNG Sign Sustainability-Linked Loan to Support Rural Livelihoods and Agroforestry in Indonesia
JAKARTA, INDONESIA (27 January 2022) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $15 million loan facility with PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk (DSNG) to help the company expand sustainable wood processing, rural livelihood development, and climate-resilient agroforestry in Java, Indonesia.
The ADB proceeds will finance capital expenditure to implement energy-efficient and water-saving processes, and procurement of cultivated native Indonesian Sengon and Jabon trees. Farmed native trees can be a sustainable alternative to natural timber, preventing deforestation and supporting biodiversity.
DSNG sources timber from Central, East, and West Java. The majority of Sengon and Jabon trees are cultivated by smallholder farmers and are intercropped with a variety of other crops including coffee, corn, and rice. As well as enabling the utilization of otherwise unproductive land, intercropping trees with food crops can reduce erosion, enhance soil health, and in many cases improve crop yields.
“The region faces increasing climate shocks, impacting livelihoods, food, water, and health for millions of people with women disproportionately affected,” said ADB’s Private Sector Operations Department Senior Investment Specialist Carine Donges. “ADB’s assistance will promote sustainable and inclusive agroforestry, preventing deforestation and supporting biodiversity, while demonstrating how the private sector can improve rural livelihoods and climate resilience through innovative sourcing models and by providing training to farmers.”
A $500,000 technical assistance grant administered by ADB will provide capacity building in climate-resilient agricultural practices for complex agroforestry systems and financial literacy to about 4,000 farmers, at least 1,200 of them women.
As a sustainability-linked loan, this financing demonstrates ADB’s and DSNG’s commitment to a low-carbon and climate-resilient future. It is DSNG’s first sustainability-linked financing, with adjustments in pricing upon achieving pre-defined annual sustainability targets, including training farmers to obtain forest management certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. The sustainability-linked loan has received an independent second-party opinion, consistent with industry principles.
“Sustainability is embedded in how DSNG runs its business, and we are constantly driving ourselves to achieve value and positive impacts. This sustainability linked loan with ADB dovetails with our vision to be a business that is responsible for our people, our planet and our common prosperity,” said DSNG Director Jenti Widjaja. “By incorporating sustainability metrics through key aspects of our business, from our supply chain and operations to financing, we aim to strengthen the alignment between creating value and delivering positive impacts for all of our stakeholders in our wood business.”
Established in 1980, DSNG is listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. In the wood segment of its business, the company operates two wood processing plants in Central Java with an installed capacity of 150,000 square meters a month for engineered flooring and 9,000 cubic meter per month for panels. DSNG is one of Indonesia’s leading forestry companies and its largest exporter of wood products to Japan.
ADB is committed to achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific, while sustaining its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty. Established in 1966, it is owned by 68 members—49 from the region.

Clara Benin opens 2023 with the release of When Harry Met Sally-inspired track “different…”
The acclaimed singer-songwriter takes rom-com to an entirely different level as she revels in the idea of ‘what-ifs’
2022 has been a great year for Clara Benin. Aside from getting featured on a Times Square billboard in New York ahead of the International Women’s Day, the folk darling received two nominations at the recently concluded 8th Wish Music Awards and collaborated with international artists such as British singer-songwriter Lowswimmer. On top of her achievements, Benin also dropped a song called "Affable Dork," which garnered rave reviews for "adopting a jazz-pop approach."
This year is no different for the prolific act, as she continues to delight Clarafied (her official fans club) with her remarkable consistency. Benin opens 2023 with a soothing tune that revels in the idea of ‘what ifs' and how it often sparks curiosity and wonder. Her new single, "different…" draws inspiration from a rom-com classic, a common theme among her last few releases.
"I wrote this song after being inspired by the movie, When Harry Met Sally," Benin admits. "My song "different…" is about having a really good friendship with someone and wondering if you two could take that relationship somewhere different."
In "different…," Clara Benin takes a familiar musical route without losing the riveting earnestness of the subject. As expected, the FIlipino singer-songwriter has mastered the art of subtlety, and on "different," it’s here to stay: beautifully woven as if it’s an integral part of Benin’s identity as an artist.
The track is produced by Francis Lorenzo and Gabba Santiago, with her dad Joey Benin playing fretless bass. Clara initially recorded the vocals and guitars of the song in her dad’s studio in December 2021, during the time when she visited her family in her hometown. The rest, as they say, is history.
"We went for a more stripped-down instrumentation so we could really highlight the lyrics," reveals the talented singer-songwriter. "I really wanted to play around with more organic sounds. Majority of the percussive sounds that you hear in this song are actually just Gabba tapping on random things around my studio."

RUEL ANNOUNCES HIGHLY ANTICIPATEDDEBUT ALBUM 4TH WALL TO BE RELEASED MARCH 3RDNEW SINGLE “MUST BE NICE” OUT NOW
British-Australian singer/songwriter and pop prodigy Ruel announces his highly anticipated debut album 4th Wall to be released March 3rd via RCA Records. Through a journey that spanned over the last three years, Ruel’s long-awaited debut album explores his most personal and stellar musical offerings to date. Pre-order/pre-save HERE.
Today, Ruel releases his new single “MUST BE NICE” which was written and produced with longtime collaborator M-Phazes (Khalid, Noah Cyrus) along with TMS Production Team (Lewis Capaldi, Dua Lipa) and songwriter Sean Douglas (Lizzo, Thomas Rhett). The emotive, piano-driven ballad showcases Ruel’s stunning voice, which glides effortlessly from gritty tenor to airy falsetto. Listen HERE.
Speaking on the single, Ruel says, "’MUST BE NICE’ is the first time I’ve ever released a ballad as a single, and it would have to be one of my favourite tracks on the record. Lyrically it's such an easy song to grasp, essentially, it’s just about a break up. But I wanted to take a step back and try and give it a new perspective. All break ups are difficult in their own way, but when you see the other person getting on with their life, it hits so much harder. I feel like the lyric “fuck it must be nice” captures that perfectly."
About Ruel:
At just twenty years old, the performer born Ruel Van Dijk has experienced several careers worth of success. Since debuting in 2017 at the age of fourteen on producer M-Phazes “Golden Years,” Ruel was the youngest artist to appear on the popular live segment “Like a Version” on renowned Australian youth radio station triple j. He has since released three EPs, earned five platinum records, and amassed over two billion streams worldwide. As the youngest artist to sell out the Sydney Opera House (twice), he has been hailed by the likes of Elton John, and touring partners Khalid and Shawn Mendes, while being declared by media critics as “the next global pop star in waiting.” His decorated career includes two MTV Europe Music Awards, a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award, an ARIA Award, and numerous nominations.
