Spence Lee, the rising Hip-hop star from New Jersey, is set to make waves with the release of his latest single and music video, "Foundation." Following the success of his recent tracks, "Spend My Days" and "White Tee," the artist delves into new territory with "Foundation," where he metaphorically asserts his dominance and showcases his musical genius.
The song's inspiration stems from Spence Lee's personal values, as reflected in lyrics like "God and my family is my foundation, I don’t make any moves out of desperation." This thematic core not only influenced the title but also forms the bedrock of the artist's creative expression. In a musical landscape often saturated with superficiality, Spence Lee aims to lay down the foundation of authenticity and substance.
"Foundation" is a unique blend of impactful and meaningful lyrics coupled with a boastful flair. The vibe of the song is designed to uplift and energize listeners, making it the perfect workout anthem or club hit. Spence Lee's ability to seamlessly blend powerful messages with a catchy beat showcases his versatility as an artist.
The melodic and dark beats of "Foundation" were crafted by a powerhouse trio – Lifted of the Eardrummers, MaxFlames, and Lucian. The result is a classic southern slow trap beat with an Asian flare. The rolling bass, melodic undertones, and mysterious ambiance create a sonic experience that perfectly complements Spence Lee's lyrical prowess.
The accompanying music video, shot in Saigon, Vietnam, and directed by Jason Ano, is a visual spectacle. The breathtaking scenery of Saigon serves as a backdrop to high-energy scenes featuring motorcycles, boats, fire breathers, and traditional Vietnamese choreography in the heart of the city. Spence Lee is seamlessly integrated into the vibrant culture of Saigon, surrounded by locals embracing their heritage.
The music video goes beyond the ordinary, featuring stunning artistic imagery of Spence amidst ocean rocks and traditional Vietnamese dance sequences. The striking visuals serve as a testament to Spence Lee's commitment to showcasing the spirit of Vietnam and his own cultural identity.
Watch the “Foundation” music video here.
The single's artwork is a heartfelt tribute to Spence's grandmothers, both of whom recently passed away. The imagery features Spence in an Asian jungle, with his grandmother depicted as an angel protecting him. This visual element adds a personal touch to the release, reinforcing the emotional connection between the artist and his art.
"Foundation" is not just a song; it's a statement. Spence Lee is carving his niche in the music industry, combining meaningful narratives with visually striking content. As he steps into the spotlight with "Foundation," Spence Lee invites listeners to join him on a journey of self-discovery, cultural celebration, and musical innovation.

Revisit the timeless appeal of Rivermaya’s Greatest Hits: Himig Ng Dekada 90
A top-tier collection of the band’s most iconic alt-rock anthems, the compilation album is the go-to playlist to hype OPM fans for their reunion concert on February 17, 2024 at the SMDC Festival Grounds
With timeless pop-rock anthems that cut across generational lines, Rivermaya has easily cemented their place as one of the most important Filipino bands of all time. Their songs have served their purpose as great anchors for intimate conversations and as a source of comfort for every Filipino yearning for music they can call home.
More than their wistful and sometimes introspective reflections on love, pain, freedom, and youth, Rivermayapenned music with a mix of unwavering earnestness and vulnerability, capturing the essence of everyday life in nuanced but relatable terms.
The band’s iconic lineup from 1994 to 1998, which includes Bamboo Mañalac, Mark Escueta, Nathan Azarcon, and Rico Blanco has produced some of the most enduring classics in Pinoy rock. From the chest-thumping sing-alongs of “Hinahanap-Hanap Kita,” “Elesi,” and “Ulan” to the stadium-sized glory of “Awit Ng Kabataan” and “Kisapmata,” from the melancholic balladry of “If,” “Panahon Na Naman,” and “214” to the cult appeal of “Bring Me Down” and “Luha,” the popular four-piece act achieved commercial success while delivering groundbreaking cultural impact and artistic vision in equal measure—something that has proven to be elusive, even among their contemporaries in the field.
Their legacy, which shaped the ever-fickle pop culture of the ‘90s with their distinct brand of eloquence and charm, is fully captured in their essential Rivermaya - Greatest Hits: Himig Ng Dekada 90 album, which chronicles the biggest hits of their formative years as well as the underrated tunes that still hold merit up to this day. Featuring twelve of their most iconic songs and two remixes, the compilation album gives listeners a complete picture of the band’s music: fearless in its humanity and imperfection, but smugly cool in portraying tenderness, chaos, and adventurousness in situations that don’t always feel like they’re made for the movies. It’s as real as it gets.
“There are powerful messages in the songs, for those who need to hear them,” drummer Mark Escueta reflects on the compilation album’s intrinsic appeal. “Overall, it’s fun to listen to the songs, even the sad ones. We’re honored that we get to share our music and inspire people on a personal, intimate level. We no longer own these songs; they belong to anyone who dares to wholeheartedly embrace them and still emerge whole from the process. It’s everyone’s songs now.”
With Mañalac, Escueta, Azarcon, and Blanco headlining a reunion concert on February 17, 2024, at the SMDC Festival Grounds, Rivermaya’s Greatest Hits record serves not only as a convincing argument for the band’s inimitable genius but also as a guide to the immortal music that’s so deeply ingrained in Pinoy collective consciousness. For long-time fans who would want to deep-dive into the band’s discography and review their career-defining ‘karaoke’ jams, this compilation album is the way to go for the essential no-skips fodder.
Here's the track list to get you started:

Afgan —one of Indonesia’s brightest stars— releases his new single and official music video “Shallow Water.” Out today via EMPIRE, the emotionally charged ballad will appear on Afgan’s forthcoming English album, Sonder. A deeply personal release for Afgan, “Shallow Water” explores how past traumas can hinder a relationship and how the fear of making mistakes can prevent a relationship from evolving into something deeper. Speaking on the song’s inspiration, Afgan shared, “this fear of fucking things up arises if we went in too deep in the relationship. Cause it definitely doesn't feel like shallow waters and you tend to get overwhelmed and drown in the emotions.”.
Listen to “Shallow Water” here and watch the official music video here.
Afgan is set to make his U.S. concert debut later this month with headlining performances at Elsewhere in New York City on February 15th and at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on February 16th and 17th. The February 16th show sold out almost immediately and a second date has been added by popular demand.
Afgan has been redefining Indonesian music on the global stage with his commanding vocals, emotionally charged songwriting and R&B sensibilities. Over his illustrious career, he’s built a massive passionate fanbase of nearly 20 million followers across his social media and hundreds of millions of streams across his music catalog. His 2021 groundbreaking album, Wallflower —his first English project and foray into the global pop market— spotlighted his influence and opened new doors for the Jakarta-based superstar. It earned #1 on Netease International Chart and landed on 10 Spotify New Music Friday Playlists. The album’s top singles, which included “M.I.A” featuring Jackson Wang, “Touch Me” (Remix by Robin Thicke), “Say I’m Sorry,” and “If I Don’t Have Your Love,” have generated more than 40 million streams. As Afgan’s star quality continues to take stock internationally, he sets the stage for Sonder, his most personal body of work yet, which is set to be released later this year.
Afgan, the shortened moniker for Afgansyah Reza, grew up in Jakarta, as a shy individual, finding solace in music and honing his natural talent in the privacy of karaoke rooms. His mother’s love for powerhouses like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Brian McKnight would come to shape his vocal style— he would imitate these artists, practicing their belting and runs. One day, serendipitously, a label VP overheard Afgan’s captivating rendition of John Legend’s “Ordinary People” during a karaoke session and offered him a record contract on the spot. Afgan released his debut album, Confession No.1, in January 2008 and since then, has become an influential, beloved name in Asian entertainment with eight solo albums under his belt. Known for his soulful, buttery vocals, coalesced with R&B and ballad roots, Afgan has headlined arenas throughout Asia, including at Java Jazz Festival, Joyland and PESTAPORA, and toured 60 dates in 2023 alone. His dynamic performance extends from the stage to TV and film, such as the popular Korean reality series, Tripmate: Who Are You. He’s collaborated with fashion brands, like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Coach and Kenzo, and with artists such as B.I, Jackson Wang, Robin Thicke, and Raisa. Most recently, two of his singles, “Panah Asmara” and “Lenggang Puspita,” went viral on TikTok with millions of videos created. As he embarks into his next era, a year that’s already brimming with promise, including a world tour and a new album in motion, Afgan is unabashedly him.

SB19’s PABLO heads in the right direction with new song “AKALA”
The sonically captivating track marks another collaboration with his real-life brother Josue of Radkidz, who also co-produced viral hits “Determinado” and “Gento”
After championing the resurgence of the rap-rock genre with the release of “Determinado” a few weeks ago, SB19’s PABLO continues to exceed expectations with another banger that doesn’t sound quite like anything he has released so far.
On “AKALA,” the P-Pop star drops a hard-hitting track that blends hip-hop sensibilities with trap beats and atmospheric production. Sonically captivating and heartfelt, PABLO surprises at nearly every turn with a song that hints at a new level of creative inspiration—songwriting and production-wise.
The track also marks another collaboration with his brother Josue of Radkidz, who is also responsible for co-producing his previously released track “Determinado,” and SB19’s viral smash “Gento.”
PABLO, on the other hand, brought improvements in structural developments and dynamics and penned the majority of the lyrics. He shares, “I added some singing parts and a hook and gave the song a resolution in terms of musical arrangement. We wanted it to be a song that’s easy to listen to and sing along to, just like how it is when friends gather and sing together.”
According to PABLO, “AKALA” was conceived during the pandemic when Josue had him listen to one of his beats with a partially written verse about finding escape in getting wasted. While both of them have different perspectives about alcohol consumption, the SB19 leader and main rapper found it intriguing and interesting enough to revisit the track and improve some parts of it.
“Even though we have different practices in terms of drinking, we agree on the idea that alcohol is not the answer to problems,” the talented multi-hyphenate explains. “I asked him if I could also write my verse in the song and tweak some parts, and he agreed. I didn’t want the song to just be about getting wasted, so I thought of a way to introduce my perspective through rearranging the letters of ‘alak’ and that’s how ‘Akala’ materialized. My mother also pitched in a line in the song and it made more sense.”
The breakout artist behind La Luna sums it all up: “Everything that I have released so far features intense and heavy instrumentation, but ‘Akala’ follows a completely different direction this time around. It has a more laid-back, dreamy vibe to it.”
PABLO’s “AKALA” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Tokyo-based and wildly special four-girl progressive pop-group ATARASHII GAKKO!unveil their latest single “Toryanse '' via 88rising. Stream “Toryanse” HERE and watch the accompanying music video HERE.
“Toryanse” is an infectious, dance-inducing track that begins with rhythmic chanting before ushering in a heavy percussive beat. In Japanese culture, “Toryanse'' is a popular children’s song about crossing the street and is often played at crosswalks to signal when it is safe to walk. Playing on the classic nursery rhyme, ATARASHII GAKKO! is at a crossroads - literally, figuratively - and sing about powering through life’s trials and tribulations one step at a time. The accompanying, colorful, high-octane music video pays homage to elements of Japanese youth culture and ends with an epic dance circle.
The group reflected on the song, “Toryanse is a song that combines playful and nostalgic lyrics from Japanese nursery rhymes with vibrant beats of Brazilian phonk. To the four of us, this song reflects the joy and pride growing up in Japan. Come dance with us!”
The new music follows on the heels of a highly successful year full of many firsts for the group. Last October, they unveiled “Tokyo Calling,” a reflective single about the harsh monotony of daily life in Tokyo which opens with a doomsday-like alarm. It was met with critical acclaim upon release and ATARASHII GAKKO! made their US late-night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with the song (watch HERE). The group also showcased their inimitable performance style on their first worldwide SEISHUN Tour, which sold out completely in the U.S., and at music festivals like Mexico City’s Corona Capital Festival and 88rising’s New York and Los Angeles iterations of the Head In The Clouds Music & Arts Festival. This year ATARASHII GAKKO! plays their first-ever Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with sets on Sunday, April 14 and 21.
ATARASHII GAKKO! (literally meaning “new school” in Japanese) are a group of four young women who are redefining what it means to be a girl group. While most J-Pop female idol groups are known for their squeaky high voices, perfectly synchronized dance moves, feigned images of purity and innocence, and an excessive drive to always be kawaii (cute), AG! isn’t into any of that. They wear sailor-fuku (sailor suits) uniforms in a style that were worn by Japanese students back in the 70s and 80s with long skirts and pulled-up socks, and staunchly refuse to be objectified. Their aggressive and expressive dance moves, which they choreograph themselves, are a hybrid of the energy of Japanese butoh dance, heavy metal headbanging, and hip-hop street dancing. Musically, AG! brings together elements of modern J-Pop, Showa-era kayokyoku, rap, punk, dance music, but it would be pointless to try to categorize them in any genre.

Paul Russell reminds us to smile on new track “Say Cheese”
New album, ‘Everything I Thought It Was’ to be released on March 15th
Pre-order here
Today, rising rapper singer-songwriter Paul Russell is sharing new track “Say Cheese” out now via Arista Records. The official video will make its broadcast premiere on Wednesday, January 31st across MTV Live, mtvU, MTV’s Biggest Pop and the Paramount Times Square billboards.
Russell’s signature feel good drive is written all over this one. On the inspiration behind it, he shares, “I wrote ‘Say Cheese’ on my birthday, a couple weeks after I quit my job and started traveling the world as a full-time artist. The song is meant to feel like a celebration - of life and of the fact that anything can happen. Take more photos so you can treasure those moments forever. So, ‘Say Cheese!’”
“Say Cheese” follows Russell’s highly acclaimed track “Lil Boo Thang'' which Billboard raved, “it is impossible to sit still when this infectious ditty comes on” and selected it on their 100 Best Songs of 2023: Staff Picks list. The song has been streamed over 250 million times globally, currently sits in the Top Twenty on Billboard’s Hot 100 and has been performed live across the world including appearances on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Today Show, Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve, France's NRJ Music Awards and more. On the radio end, the song landed at an impressive No. 5 at Top 40 Radio and was the No. 3 most played song across all radio formats in 2023. In the words of PopDust, “the Ivy League grad now has a hit on the Billboard charts and a career that’s taking off.”
Paul Russell’s “Say Cheese” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment/Columbia Records. Watch the lyric video here.
ABOUT PAUL RUSSELL
You’ve never met or heard anybody quite like Paul Russell. As a kid, the Dallas, TX native learned how to wail on trumpet in between spitting bars during lunchroom battle-raps and later crooning over ukulele (like the human equivalent of the dopest playlist you’ve ever heard!). His musical DNA is just as wildly dynamic as his personality is. During his time at Cornell University, he often DJ-ed at parties. As such, he knows how to get a party popping. A wide swath of inspirations—from Anderson .Paak and OutKast to Louis Armstrong—impacted his own creative trajectory. He gained traction with a series of early uploads and went viral a few times (even fooling the internet into thinking he had a Drake feature on the way once—If you’re reading this, Drizzy, get at him).
Settling down in Los Angeles, he released the independent anthem “Hallelujah” followed by “Ms. Poli Sci,” which generated over 37 million overall streams to date. He best describes his boisterous rhythms, ecstatic hooks, and buffet of R&B, funk, pop, and hip-hop as “cookout music you listen to outside with a bunch of friends.” That holds true on his Arista Records debut single “Lil Boo Thang.” Built around an interpolation of “Best of My Love” by The Emotions, it lit up TikTok and Instagram to the tune of tens of millions of views. He effectively delivered “Lil Boo Thang'' as the perfect soundtrack to any and all good times. Skyrocketing right out of the gate and has been streamed over 250 million times globally. Now, Paul is kicking off the year right with “Say Cheese”. Beyond his status as a bona fide breakout star, Paul Russell is about to be your new best friend.

“The best record of [Mitski’s] career” — Wall Street Journal, “Best Music of 2023”
“Mitski is a master storyteller — able to make music with a cinematic scope and novelist’s eye for detail” — Rolling Stone, #7 in “The 100 Best Albums of 2023”
“[Mitski’s] animist imagery is more vivid than ever on The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We.”
— Pitchfork, “The 50 Best Albums of 2023”
“Quiet and exacting, it’s rare to find songs that are so viscerally upsetting yet so compellingly relistenable. Mitski manages both here, and in the process has made a true stunner.”
— Stereogum, #4 in “The 50 Best Albums of 2023”
Mitski unveils a short film for La Blogothèque of “I’m Your Man,” a standout song from her new album, The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We. Filmed in Paris and directed by Aelred Nils, the performance sees Mitski wandering the halls of a hundred-year old concert hall while playing an acoustic rendition of “I’m Your Man,” adding a haunting aura to what FADER calls “the tragic crux of The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We.”
Watch Mitski’s La Blogothèque Performance
Last week, Mitski announced a lengthy fall tour in support of The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We. Due to demand, Mitski has added additional concerts, including a performance with Alvvays at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, a third date at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA, and a second date at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. General on-sale for all newly announced tour dates is Friday, Jan. 26 at 10AM local time, and can be purchased here.
As Billboard hailed The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We as “all-out gorgeous, a studio masterclass” and Stereogum declared it is “Mitski’s most intricate, widescreen album to date,” the album garnered widespread praise upon its release, and made a huge splash in the best of the year lists. It was named a top 10 album of 2023 by Brooklyn Vegan (#1), NYLON (#2), Exclaim! (#2), Stereogum (#4), The Guardian (#5), Toronto Star (#6), Rolling Stone (#7), Sound Opinions (#7), Paste (#8), Consequence (#9), Entertainment Weekly (#10), and more.
On top of the album’s success, The Land’s “My Love Mine All Mine,” a “slow, moony ballad that sounds unlike anything else on the charts” (New York Times), has quickly become one of the most popular and streamed songs in the world (+750million streams since release 4 months ago). It’s peaked as the #2 most streamed song in the world on Spotify and #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts (now in its 15th week on the Chart), in addition to holding the #1 spot on the Billboard TikTok Top 50 chart for a record-breaking five weeks. Additionally, “My Love Mine All Mine” has just debuted at #40 at US Top 40 radio. “It’s a perfect snapshot of [Mitski’s] wistful craftsmanship—tender-hearted and sharp-toothed” (Pitchfork).
In Southeast Asia “My Love Mine All Mine” has resonated profoundly with local audiences, being the most streamed track for Mitski in the region. Dominating across multiple fronts, from commanding and sustaining positions on various streaming platform charts to topping local radio charts, the song has left an indelible mark in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, further underscores the artist’s growing appeal in these countries.
