XG Releases “IYKYK”

Second pre-release track from mini album AWE

🎬 Watch the official music video here

Following “SOMETHING AIN’T RIGHT” that was released in July, XG has officially unveiled “IYKYK”, another cut from their upcoming second mini album, AWE, available now on all music streaming platforms.

“IYKYK” encapsulates the seven-member girl group’s bold quest to keep pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted territories. With a theme inspired by “XG exploring the universe”, the song invites listeners to join them on a journey through a new, limitless dimension at lightspeed! The track blends a rhythmic 2-Step beat with a sample from m-flo's 2001 hit “prism”, evoking a sense of floating through space and amplifying the excitement of an adventure in exploration.

The chorus - featuring the phrase “If You Know, You Know” - symbolises an invitation for those in the know to embrace this adventurous spirit and join in on XG’s extraordinary journey.

The music video for “IYKYK” offers a fresh perspective from XG’s previous videos, showcasing the world through their eyes. It explores the question, “How does the world look to them? Is it mysterious and otherworldly?” The concept centers around a “Mutated Sense”, where each XG member’s unique sensory distortion allows them to see the true light (a planet). The video artfully portrays these sensory shifts, capturing XG’s signature mystique. We invite you to step into XG’s dreamscape and experience it firsthand.

Grammy-winning global superstar Tyla adds to her historic debut album campaign

With a GRAMMY and two Billboard records under her belt, Tyla adds to the magic of her debut album before returning to the stage and studio with three brand new tracks on the deluxe edition of her debut album, TYLA, and a victorious run through awards season, including three BET + VMA wins

Tyla adds to the fever of her breakout season with the arrival of the deluxe edition of her debut album, TYLA, available now as TYLA +. The refreshed album, which features three brand new tracks from the GRAMMY-winning singer, celebrates the historic run that began in Summer ‘23 and has resulted in the birth of true superstardom.

The new music includes guest features from rising South African stars Tony Duardo, Optimist and Maestro. Stream it here

On TYLA +, Tyla shines a light on rising South African talent, featuring DJ/producer Tony Duardo and singers Optimist and Maestro, on the opening track of the deluxe trio, “Shake Ah.” The following two songs, “Push 2 Start” and “Back To You,” exhibit Tyla’s continued infusion of R&B into her Amapiano-led palate. “When Amapianowould come on, we would see everybody’s moves just change. Seeing the energy of it…it felt so spiritual,” Tyla reminisced to Elle. “I always wanted to mix it with other styles that I enjoy, like R&B and pop—and make it my own.”

Leading up to the explosion of “Water,” Tyla’s chart-dominant, multi-platinum breakout hit, the South African native was adamant in establishing her mission: to push the magic of Amapiano global. She then went on to chart “Water” at a Billboard Hot 100 peak of #7, making her the highest-charting African female soloist ever, and subsequently debuted TYLA, her first studio album, within the Billboard 200’s Top 25, making her the highest-charting African female soloist on that chart as well. “Water” went on to win a GRAMMY Award and earned Tyla a slot performing the song at the heralded opening ceremony for this year’s Paris Olympics. Mission accomplished.

“Water,” as it happens, is still being recognized for its widespread impact. Tyla is nominated for four MTV Europe Music Awards this year: Best New Artist, Best R&B Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist and Best African Act. The 2024 MTV EMAs will be held in Manchester, UK on Nov. 10.

The nominations come on the heels of Tyla’s victorious summer 2024, during which she earned two BET Awards—‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best International Act’—to go with a ‘Best Afrobeats Video’ at the MTV VMAs.

For Tyla, however, there is much more to come. She recently announced a pair of massive tour dates: Dec. 5 and Dec. 7 in her native South Africa, where she hasn’t performed since “Water” was released. It will be a welcomed homecoming for Tyla who, after just one album, is already one of the most globally renowned and successful artists ever from the region. Tickets will be on sale Thursday morning.

There is also more music still to come, as Tyla told PEOPLE in September. “It's different,” she said. “I've grown so much this year. I've evolved in so many different aspects that this new music is going to be that version of me, the now version of Tyla.

The Bloomfields releases new single "Get Up"

The track is written by band members Rocky Collado and Lakan Hila

Ahead of their highly anticipated 20th anniversary show this month, The Bloomfields have dropped “Get Up,” a new single that the band originally wrote in 2019.

Built around a single-chord jam, “Get Up” draws inspiration from the whimsical era of ‘60s psychedelic rock. The energetic track brims with a heavy dose of loud, droning guitars and hypnotic soundscapes, providing a stark contrast to their more pop-leaning work.

According to the band, they wrote the song without the intention of making a hit. “It felt wonderful to release it as our fourth single and share it with our audience.”

The Bloomfield explains, “It’s a high-energy track that felt perfect to release ahead of our 20th-anniversary show, getting people hyped and ready.”

Band members Rocky Collado and Lakan Hila penned"Get Up,” with the latter taking care of the mixing duties. Giving the track a retro feel with modern energy, Lakanmade sure that his approach to production reflected The Bloomfields’ 1960s and 1970s aesthetic while embracing a hard-hitting, jam-driven sound.

The indie pop/rock outfit will be performing the song live for the very first time at Byaheng Mahiwaga: The Bloomfields 20th Anniversary Gig, happening on October 25, 2024, at Fin and Claw, Timog, Quezon City.

Chronicling their musical journey for the past two decades, the special show aims to “treat fans to a night of memorable music and fun” as The Bloomfields perform some of the most iconic originals from their catalog, along with notable covers from their repertoire.

The highly anticipated event will include a full-length set from The Bloomfields, a performance by High Targets, a Motown-influenced ska/reggae band, and a special reunion with former bandmate Dino Pascual, who is preparing to launch his solo career next year.

Tickets are available via bloomfields.helixpay.ph.

The Bloomfields’ “Get Up” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Lilystars Records.

Phum Viphurit Goes Deeper into the World of Paul Vibhavadi in “Balter Baby”

After surprising fans with his story-driven conceptual single “The Other Side”, Bangkok-born singer-songwriter Phum Viphurit goes even deeper into the world of his alter ego Paul Vibhavadi on “Balter Baby”, the second single from his upcoming EP PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1. Released to streaming platforms on October 9, 2024, this dance-oriented piece is Phum’s first instrumental-only track that showcases another side of his musical tastes and capabilities. An animated music video for “Balter Baby” by Shea Oracheski and James Bedggood based on Phum’s concept will also debut on the official Phum Viphurit YouTube channel.

In terms of narrative, “Balter Baby” picks up just before where “The Other Side” left off, in which the lovable sloth Paul Vibhavadi is grappling with his newfound adulation amongst a sloth-worshipping tribe he stumbled upon during his journey in search of the magical forest of Himmapan. “I wanted to expand on a part of the previous music video when it shows the tribe worshipping him, almost like an Ari Aster, Midsommer-type dance,” says Phum. “So it’s showing Paul in the trance of that, what he was feeling in that dance sequence.”

Intriguingly, Phum opted to convey this chapter of Paul’s story via an instrumental track with no vocals, once again pushing the boundaries of his music in the process. “I’ve done instrumental-heavy music, but always with glimpses of my voice. This one’s purely for people to dance to,” says Phum. “Honestly, if you go through the last fifty of my liked Spotify songs, I would say 45 of them are instrumental music. When I’m looking for inspiration, I try to write lyrics over pre-existing instrumentals, and I wanted to deconstruct that method by, ‘Hey, what if I can capture someone’s attention or move their head along to this three-minute house track that’s guitar-based with some synths?’ It was an interesting challenge, but also fits within the theme of the story.”

Regarding the specific influences for “Balter Baby”, Phum says, “I listened to a lot of Modjo, a dance group from the 2000s. I also listened to a lot of Seventies Motown, funk and disco. But most of it was led by the visual, because I directed the ‘The Other Side’ music video and was pretty heavily involved in the animation process for the ‘Balter Baby’ video. So I was thinking of Paul’s story and what particular soundtrack would suit this scene.” Indeed, the music of “Balter Baby” perfectly complements the video that takes us into Paul’s mind as his immersion into this new world that has embraced him sees him grooving along like a retro dance video game character.

The choice of “Balter Baby” as a single also further emphasizes the boldness of Phum Viphurit’s exploration on the PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1 EP, while still making sense within the context of the project. “I felt like it was going to introduce a new house-inspired song like ‘The Other Side’, I needed a bit of a continuation before I break from that tempo and texture, so ‘Balter Baby’ was the most natural selection to me,” he says. “It’s like, ‘Hey, it’s not just a one-off thing.’ I’m playing with the idea of trance, movement and motifs throughout the whole EP.”

The end of the “Balter Baby” video sees Paul Vibhavadi enclosed in a glowing orb as he floats away from that tribe, and the audience is free to draw their own conclusions – or look for more answers when the PAUL VIBHAVADI VOL. 1 drops on October 17. “I know it’s quite a conceptual piece of work, and there’ll be many different interpretations of it,” says Phum. “But I’m so excited to show my creativity and make people feel something again with this next piece of work.”

Ely Buendia Rocks Through the Apocalypse for Music Video of New Single, Tagpi-Tagping Piraso

MANILA, Philippines—October 4, 2024—In preparation for his upcoming album, “Method Adaptor” Ely Buendia is set to guide listeners through a dystopian, fiery landscape for the official music video of his new single, “Tagpi-Tagping Piraso” to be released on October 24, 2024.

With the sound being heavily reminiscent by fast-paced rock, with the lyrical narrative that touches on retrospection and the beauty of just letting things be, Ely Buendia proudly announces “Tagpi-Tagping Piraso” as an additional single for his upcoming album, “Method Adaptor”, to be released under OM.

The track itself is a telling of the complexities of human emotions especially in areas where said emotions are buried beneath time. It is a track that makes use of an upbeat, almost a callback to 80’s rock, for its signature sound, while lyrically, the song is a direct melancholic acceptance to certain situations that simply cannot be fixed.

Since the release of his latest material, “Bulaklak Sa Buwan”, Ely Buendia has been relentless in honing his musical prowess to guide listeners to a world that goes beyond what an average listener would expect from the OPM icon. His consistency along with his itch for innovation seeps through exponentially on this new single as it not only dives deep into a tale through his signature style of storytelling, but the adaptation of said story through the lens of CGI is a sure fire way to be worth the anticipation from fans, both new and old.

The stunning, futuristic visuals to accompany the track is made possible by the talented folks over at Glitch.Asia—-a new-age video production company that utilizes the power of Virtual production through the power of CGI, augmented reality, motion capture, and other ultramodern filmmaking techniques  that makes the process cost and time efficient without  undermining traditional means such as integrating real-life and animated components.

The incorporation of these technical advancements as visualizer for the track is also a

way for younger fans to connect with Ely Buendia’s current project as a solo artist. “Tagpi-tagping Piraso” aims to string listeners along through an unabashedly raw telling of destructed pieces from past situations all while embracing its brokenness, while ultimately expanding the story through the unique storyline and look in the music video.

The music video will be available at:
https://www.youtube.com/@elybuendia9000

The track will be available on all streaming platforms.

About ELY BUENDIA:

More than the usual string of superlatives, Ely Buendia is a storyteller. Not just someone with above-average verbiage, or a propensity to weave hastily rhymed couplets. But the genuine article. And whether it’s with the massively popular Eraserheads, or with any of his latter-era pursuits (the genre-bending rock outfit Pupil, rockabilly meisters Oktaves, or the soul/funk collective Apartel), listeners are assured of both pop smarts and an indefatigable sense of invention.

Barbie Almalbis tackles her bouts with mental health on “Happy Sad”

The song serves as the third single off her upcoming fifth album, to be released at the end of the year

Barbie Almalbis continues to confront her inner struggles by releasing another song that openly addresses them in a musical way, following the release of her previous songs "Desperate Hours" and "Homeostasis."

Her new song, "Happy Sad," reflects on her own mental health and the stigma behind it, while helping her process her feelings through writing songs.

The alt-pop figure explains, “Sometimes we have to let go of things, and there are just things beyond our control, and we just got to continue, walk in and through the ‘wilderness,’ but I’ve always found hope in God that even through the hard times, He is still doing something good.”

Nick Lazaro, who also assisted in arranging the instrumental parts, produced the emotionally vulnerable track. Eclectic Kissartists such as Pikoy, Marika Laciste, Faye Yu, and Marj Rojas also contributed to the background vocals, adding subtle layers of intricacies to the mix.

“I recorded the acoustic guitar and vocal at home, and we did backing vocals with everyone in Nick’s studio,” says Barbie Almalbis. “Nick also recorded the main instrumental track in his studio.”

"Happy Sad" will be part of her upcoming 2024 full-length album, which thematically brings her journey towards mental health, healing, and self-discovery into the conversation. She plans to release it sometime in November 2024.

dwta’s ‘Di Naman is a confessional ode to unrequited love

The new track marks a subtle shift towards a more pop-oriented sound

Continuing her rise to mainstream acclaim, dwta releases her new single “'Di Naman” via Sony Music Entertainment.

On her lushly arranged alt-pop track, the Albay native expresses her frustrations with someone who may not reciprocate the same infatuated feelings as hers.

As dwta describes it, “’Di Naman is a song about the playful but frustrating side of unrequited love. Back when I first started writing it, it felt like I was just venting about my crushes and my fear of rejection. But as time passed and I experienced more, I realized the song wasn't just about being scared to make the first move but also about accepting that sometimes things don’t go your way in love.”

Co-produced with frequent collaborator Brian Lotho, “’Di Naman” reimagines chamber pop and jazz music influences through her own contemporary lens. This marks a subtle shift from her folk-y beginnings to a more mature and sonically intricate direction, while remaining true to her personal brand as a singer-songwriter.

Everything about the song is flowy and gentle, but not quite a sleeper: the arrangements soar in its delicate but ethereal way, never getting in the way of dwta’s affecting vocal delivery. The ascending strings and expressive piano lines contribute to the track’s masterful musicality. But it’s through her subdued singing that gives the torch ballad its much needed introspection and soul, striking a balance between old and new, and never feeling heavy on both ends of the spectrum.

“Our goal was to create a pop sound with an upbeat, quirky vibe,” explains the Santigwar hitmaker. “For the arrangement, we went through many revisions of the lyrics and melody. We added verses, changed some lyrics and melodies, and removed certain parts of the song. These adjustments made it easier to listen to compared to the original arrangement. We wanted to ensure that the song flowed smoothly and captured the right mood, making listeners to easily connect with the emotions.”

According to dwta, the song was inspired by some of her musical heroes, including Emily King, Lawrence, and Laufey.

As a Filipino recording artist born and raised in Bicol, dwtahas shown immense promise in music—thanks to her artistic flair and charismatic folk/pop songwriting. With music that is deeply rooted in Bicolano heritage, the award-winning artist “crafts a musical journey that not only embraces the vibrant traditions of her country and the region, but also touches the hearts of a listener.” To date, she has amassed more than 30 million streams on Spotify alone and has performed in packed venues across the country. One of her biggest hits includes “Padaba Taka,” which won her the award for Best Regional Recording at the Awit Awards in 2023. Dwta is also part of this year’s roster of Spotify RADAR, an annual program for rising artists.

The Odds of Happily Ever After by Anj Miranda: A Healing Read

I was expecting The Odds of Happily Ever After by Anj Miranda to be similar to the romance novels that populate my reading tracker. This expectation proved to be wrong by the time I was a few chapters into the book. You see, I was able to experience Luna’s situation during my college years. I dated someone like Gabe back in the day. They had the same job. They even had the same boundaries. But unlike Luna, I broke it off before I graduated because I wanted someone without the excess baggage of being in the classroom with me. I wanted someone who did not teach me for a living back in the day.

The book was admittedly painful to read at times because the conversations between Luna and Gabe felt all too real. I experienced those feelings. I felt those emotions. Reading them brought back memories which I have already banished into the darkest crevices of my brain. But as the book drew to a close, I realized that this book was the healing I needed after all these years. I felt that by reading about two characters ending up together in the most painless way was freeing and comforting.

I am already with someone else and yes, he went to college with me. He was a former classmate. I must say that seeing my past in The Odds of Happily Ever After made me realize that that situation did not work because I was meant to be with someone else. Besides, I am not Luna. I have my own story, and reading this fictional romance reminded me that my own life worked out for me in the best way possible.

I recommend The Odds of Happily Ever After to everyone in need of a slow romantic burn. The smart banter between the two protagonists will entertain you during your lunch and coffee breaks. Take this book with you during your free time, and stay for the texting evolution of Gabe. You might even be reminded of a few familiar scenes from your youth while reading this book.

The Odds of Happily Ever After will be released on the 22nd of October, 2024. It is written by Filipino author Anj Miranda.
